A Little Bit of Arizona

Volume 23

A Little Bit of Arizona

This is a photography book; it does not explain or attempt to teach you about photography, in Arizona or anywhere else. One of the greatest pleasures about photography is experimenting to see if the image you capture resembles the image you had in your mind when you took it. This book is small; it is intended to be small. It is an attempt to bring the cost of photography books down to as low as they can go without sacrificing digital quality of the images within. This is the twenty-third volume in a series, length or number unknown at the moment. However, when the series becomes sufficiently voluminous, they will be combined into a larger, and unfortunately more expensive, volume. This volume contains about 40 images. Future volumes may contain a few more or a few less depending upon final digital size. I sincerely hope you enjoy the images within.

A Safeway in Arizona

What the Gabrielle Giffords Shooting Tells Us About the Grand Canyon State and L ife in America

A Safeway in Arizona

A riveting account of the state of Arizona, seen through the lens of the Tucson shootings On January 8, 2011, twenty-two-year-old Jared Lee Loughner opened fire at a Tucson meet-and-greet held by U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. The incident left six people dead and eighteen injured, including Giffords, whom he shot in the head. Award-winning author and fifth generation Arizonan Tom Zoellner, a longtime friend of Giffords's and a field organizer on her Congressional campaign, uses the tragedy as a jumping-off point to expose the fault lines in Arizona's political and socioeconomic landscape that allowed this to happen: the harmful political rhetoric, the inept state government, the lingering effects of the housing market's boom and bust, the proliferation and accessibility of guns, the lack of established communities, and the hysteria surrounding issues of race and immigration. Zoellner's account includes interviews with those directly involved and effected, including Arizona's controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Zoellner offers a revealing portrait of the Southwestern state at a critical moment in history- and as a symbol of the nation's discontents and uncertainties. Ultimately, it is his rallying cry for a saner, more civil way of life

Arizona Wine

A History of Perseverance & Passion

Arizona Wine

Arizona's flourishing wine industry may surprise those who think of the Grand Canyon State as a desert landscape dotted with cacti. From the high-country vineyards of the Verde Valley to the rolling plateaus of Sonoita and Willcox, pioneering winemakers are producing nationally acclaimed, award-winning wines. While the 1970s are recognized as launching the modern-day industry, Arizona's viticulture dates back much further. The Spanish and Jesuit missionaries introduced European winemaking to the Southwest, and the 1800s saw the introduction of Arizona's first wineries. Join author Christina Barrueta on this fascinating journey and meet the pioneers and visionaries who are forging their own paths to build America's newest wine region.
